Every pupil should have multiple opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace. This can be through a range of enrichment activities including visiting speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes.
Every year, from the age of 11, pupils should participate in at least one meaningful encounter* with an employer.
Gatsby Benchmark 5
* A ‘meaningful’ encounter is one in which the student has an opportunity to learn about what work is like or what it takes to be successful in the workplace.
We love to work with employers, and research has shown that students who have four or more meaningful encounters with employers show higher levels of school attendance and GCSE attainment. It really helps students understand that their classroom learning directly links to preparing them for the world of work.
There are many ways you can help:
- Speaker opportunities - assembly or small group
- Mock interviews
- Work experience placement for one of our students
- Workplace visit or a shadowing opportunity
- Curriculum support - lesson delivery
- Apprenticeship opportunity for one of our students when they leave Coleridge
- Parent briefings
A number of events are integrated into the school careers programme offering employers the opportunity to come into school to speak to pupils and/or their parents/carers.
We’d love to hear from you! Please contact our Careers Team if you are able to support our curriculum learning or provide work placements.
Safeguarding
All adults working with young people are subject to relevant Coleridge Community College policies. DBS disclosures are required for any adult who is working unsupervised with students. Adults who are not DBS checked are supervised at all times by members of the college staff. Documentation from local agencies and organisations verifying DBS details of their staff is collected.
